Feeling Lucky at the Shamrock 5K

The Shamrock 5K was one of the happiest races I have ever run. The day was beautiful and everyone was in high spirits. I saw a lot of new faces on the course and quite a few familiar ones as well. If there was ever a perfect day for a race, it was March 20, 2010. After a long, cold, dreadful winter everyone was out to stretch their legs and enjoy the warmth.

Great story, Sarah. It's great to 'come full circle' as you said, remembering and appreciating those who helped you start running and, then, to be able to support and encourage a friend as she starts running.
Sooo, what's been happening since the Shamrock 5K? How was the half marathon? And other recent races? Hopefully, your injuries haven't limited you and you've been able to run well.

Well the half marathon was great. It was a blustery 32 degrees at the start, but turned out to be a great time! After that I took some time off to let my leg heal and started doing the Insanity workout instead. Which proved to be an excellent workout, but as I learned this past weekend at the Nestle it has completely shot my ability to pace myself. So much for finding that perfect pace! The interval training of Insanity had me going strong during the race and then slacking off and so on and so on.
My friend Allison held true to her word and came back to run the Nestle. She was disappointed that she wasn't any faster, but I tried to explain to her that the course makes all the difference. Anyone can have a nice fun run in early spring on the Riverwalk Trail, but trying to hold your own in blistering heat on the steady incline of Main Street is quite a bit different. Her time was almost exactly the same, which is not bad for someone just getting started!
I'm sad to say I have to miss the Bridge to Bridge 5K this weekend (I'll be out of town) but I hope for great weather and a great run for everyone!
