The Start of a Runner

Running and blogging? Two of my favorite things combined in one lovely place. Even better, since this is a website about running and fitness I can assume that if you are reading this you must have some sort of interest in running, unlike my friends and coworkers whom I am sure simply tolerate me and nod at what they consider to be my complete insanity. I mean afterall who wants to run 10 miles? With nothing chasing me? So I'll take a moment to explain how this obsession started.
I have just recently made the
I have just recently made the transition from speed walking to running and I love it. I have always wanted to run but just didn't think I had what it takes to run a mile much less a 5K. I admit while speed walking over the past 3 years there have been plently of times I just wanted to bolt and run but I know the rules. So I just continued speed walking.
Running is different. I feel like I have accomplished something when I finish running a distance run. I am looking forward to running the races in 2011. I realize I will not win trophies like I did speed walking but winning is not my goal. My goal is to cross the finish line without stopping. My ultimate goal is to do the half marathon in March in Martinsville. Thank you to all the runners who have inspired me. My motto is to Love the Life you Live and Live the Life you Love.
Let me tell you this cute story...earlier this year I decided to run the Shamrock 5K instead of speed walking. My adrenaline was pumping and I was ready....as soon as the whistle was blown to start I took off....well you know you have started off to fast when you see the back of L.C. Moore and Lee Eagle's heads. Needless to say I stopped once, twice and several more times but I did finish in 26:57 not to bad right. After that race I went back to speed walking for the rest of the year. I have done some interval training with running, and I am currently up to 6 miles..slow but steady. I learned a valuable lesson pace yourself and listen to your body.
Sarah's story is great. I

I will tell you this cute story. I decided to run the Shamrock 5k in 2010 instead of speed walking. My adrenaline was pumping when the director of the race blew the horn to start.... well you know you have started off to fast when you see the back of L.C. Moore and Lee Eagle's head in the first minute. Of course, I had to stop once and then twice and then again and after that I went back to speed walking for the rest of the year. So it is all about pacing yourself. It was definately a learning experience for me but it was fun trying. My time for that race with stopping several times was around 26:57 so not to bad right....
Thanks! I thought I'd try to
Thanks! I thought I'd try to write a little something once in awhile. I think this website is a great way for runners in Danville to connect! I love hearing about other people's experiences with running, and I'm glad to have a place to share mine.

Great story Sarah! Main
Great story Sarah! Main Street is where I grew up as a runner too. There and the River Walk are such great places to run.
And I love a nice pair of Asics! Gotta get some more of those.
